Ternitz and a trip to the Heuriger

It snowed for the first time in Austria today! Unfortunately, it was also the day that Georg was to run a 10k race in nearby town Ternitz. I would have pooped out, but Georg was a trooper and ran the race anyway in the rain and snow. I took some pictures in the car on our way to Ternitz of the snow-sprinkled trees.
By the time the race was over and we were in our car again, the precipitation started to clear up and we saw a rainbow! I don't know if you can see it here, but it's the best shot I could get:
After the race we traveled to Baden, where our friends Walter and Gerli live. Gerli made some delicious apple strudel and individual coffees tailored to our liking with her espresso machine. Afterwards, we went to a nearby Heuriger. They were serving goose to commemorate St. Martin's Day. According to Wikipedia, St. Martin was a kind and simple man whose greatest legend was that he ripped his cloak in half and gave it to a freezing man to save him from death. Why goose is served on that day, I don't know, but the goose we ate was delicious! It was accompanied by braised red cabbage and a potato dumpling flavored with nutmeg.
Everyone splurged on dessert. This is a version of a crepe with marmalade inside...
and these are sweet dumplings that were filled with chocolate and rolled in sugar and breadcrumbs. I told you Austrians liked dumplings! The dumplings were accompanied by some brandied berries, I believe.
Here are the insides of the dumplings!
Oh, and I got a new winter hat! It is probably the nicest winter hat I've ever had, and I think I will probably need it since it's so cold already and I have to be outside a lot. It's made of thick knit Italian wool and has a knit rosebud on the side!
I hope everyone is doing well and progressing gracefully into the cold weather!
