Selected Christmas Photos

Hello! It's New Year's Day, and I am tired! I was so busy over the holidays that this is the first day I've really had time by myself to sit and do whatever I want. I have about 300 pictures on my camera to upload to iPhoto, some of which I want to share on my blog. I got to do lots of new things and go to lots of new places over the holidays and today is the perfect time for me to recount these events for my blog, so I'll be making several new entries.

For anyone who was wondering how my first Christmas in a foreign country away from my family went, it was great. Sure, I missed my family terribly, but Georg's family made me feel so welcome that it wasn't too bad.

It was really great to finally see all the nice Christmas traditions that Georg's family follows, after years of Georg telling me about them. And everything that he told me about, we did. Georg's father decorated a fresh Christmas tree on the 24th with ornaments, candles, and sparklers that we'd later light. We ate a delicious trout dinner made by Georg's mother, sang Christmas carols, and opened presents. I received such thoughtful gifts.

I hope everybody had as nice of a Christmas as me!
Here's a sparkler we lit on the Christmas tree.

Georg's family put candles in all their windows that face the street so you could see them from down below. I love when people do that; I wish everyone did so that over the holidays you'd always see a bunch of glowing windows.
Here's our lovely Christmas Eve dinner of trout, potatoes (not pictured), and salad.
After dinner, Georg's mother played Christmas carols on the piano and we all sang; I did the best I could despite the fact that most of them were in German and I have a terrible singing voice.
And then it was onto the presents. I was so proud of Georg's choice of gift paper and wrapping skills!
One of Georg's gifts was a little frog that, if submerged in water, will turn into a prince! I told him he'd better be careful that I don't leave him for my newly grown prince! I was just joking, though.
